Scripture Union Assembly
Today’s assembly will be conducted by Scripture Union children
We Would like to begin our assembly with the scripture portion read by Troyden
the inspirational reading by Alex Srisunder
and the thought for the day and the prayer will be said by Keith
The scripture reading:
The scripture reading is taken from 1st Corinthians chapter 9 verses 24 to 27.
Do you not know that those who run in a race, all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it.
I run not with uncertainty, I fight not as one who beats the air. But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.
The inspirational reading:
Running everyday
The Pikes Peak Ascent is a challenging foot race, covering many miles. Don Wallace ran the race many times and won it. In his final race which is one week before his 67th birthday, he crossed the finish line and won it. It did not happen just because of one or two-day practice just before a race. Don ran 6 miles a day, year-round, with great determination and dedication. He had done that for most of his adult life and continued to that day.
The key to running the race is the discipline of running every day.
Mickey Thompson one of the most recognized names in the auto racing built, the fastest car on the track. They could fly but not one of them ever brought him a victory. Although his car took a lead in the 29th race they participated in, they never won a race, because they did not finish. Thompson could make the fastest car but he couldn’t build them last. They all broke down before they reach the finish line.
We have started a new academic year. We need to end well. We should not only be good. starters and fast racers, but also be good finishers. Are you going to approach “The race that is set before you” with a hit or miss regiment or with purpose and discipline born from the desire to win?
The thought for the day:
Run straight the race through God’s grace, with everyday practice, Be a good starter, a slow and steady runner, and a good finisher.
