Scripture Reading
The Scripture reading is taken from the book of James, Chapter 1 Verses 2-4
“Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.”
The Word of the Lord..
Short story
There was a boy, whose family was very wealthy. One day his father took him on a trip to the country, where he aimed to show his son, how poor people live. So they arrived at a farm of a very poor family, as he considered. They spent several days there . On their return, the father asked his son, if he liked the trip.
“Oh, it was great, dad” –the boy replied.
“Did you notice how poor people live?”. “Yeah, I did”- said the boy. The father asked his son to tell in more details about his impressions from their trip.
“Well, we have only one dog, and they have four of them. In our garden there is a pool, while they have a river that has no end. We’ve got expensive lanterns, but they have stars above their heads at night. We have the patio, and they have the whole horizon. We have only a small piece of land, while they have the endless fields. We buy food, but they grow it. We have a high fence for protection of our property, and they don’t need it, as their friends protect them.”
The father was stunned. He could not say a word. Then the boy added: “Thank you, dad, for letting me see how poor we are.”
Reflection:
This story shows that the true wealth as well as happiness is not measured by materials things. Love, friendship and freedom are far more valuable.
Thought for the day
It is not how much we have, but how much we enjoy, that makes happiness. Be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having more.
Let us pray-
Thank you, Lord, for all of your blessings in my life. Thank you for surrounding me with wonderful friends, family members, and neighbours. Thank you for giving us the gift of your beautiful world. Thank you for giving us the promise of eternity and everlasting life. When I am down or depressed, please remind me of all of the many reasons why I should be thankful and guide my spirit toward your happiness. Amen
Let us continue with The Lord’s Prayer
