Inspirational Reading:
Anne Sullivan was best known for being the teacher of author and lecturer Helen Keller, who was born blind and deaf.
Sullivan was partially sighted herself and learned to read and write at a school for the blind. When she became Keller’s teacher aged 20, she had her first breakthrough when she taught Keller the word ‘water’ by running water on one of her hands while tracing the letters of the word on her other hand.
Within six months Keller had learned 575 words, basic multiplication, and Braille, completely transforming her ability to communicate.
Sullivan’s pioneering teaching success brought her national attention. She continued to support Keller throughout her college education by spelling out class lectures and communicating information from textbooks.
These efforts saw her student become the first deaf-blind person to graduate from college in the US, creating a new milestone for disability education.

Thought for the day
Today’s thought for the day is a famous quote by the great poet W.B. Yeats
‘Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire’

Let us pray-
Almighty God, we come to you today and give thanks to all our teachers. Thank you for the way in which they give of themselves each day in the classroom, Serving and instructing the next generation of this land. We thank you for them all now. Father, please fill their hearts with courage now by your mighty Spirit. Fill them with your strength, so they may rise to every challenge and not grow weary. Fill them with your wisdom, so that they may be able to make good judgment when guiding and helping others. Fill them with your peace, so that when stress and anxiety come it would not overwhelm them. Fill them with your joy, so that the passion they have for their subject may become an infectious passion that spreads. We ask all this in the wonderful name of Jesus. Amen.
Let us continue by saying the Lord’s Prayer together
