SCRIPTURE READING
Scripture Reading
The scripture reading has been taken from the book of Second Chronicles Chapter 7, verse 14.
“ If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
The word of the Lord. Thanks are to God
Story
Once the river said to the ocean proudly, tell me what should I bring for you with the great speed of the water? If you want, I can uproot all the mountains, houses, trees, animals, humans, etc.
The ocean understood that the river needs to learn humility. He said, if you want to bring something for me, then bring some grass. Listening to the ocean, the river said, That’s all!. The river used its water to uproot the grass, but the grass did not get uprooted. The river did not give up and tried again and again, but the grass repeatedly bowed to the velocity of the water and was saved from being uprooted. The river did not succeed.
The tired and frustrated river reached near the ocean and bowed its head and said, I can bring houses, trees, mountains, animals, humans, etc. by shedding but could not bring the grass uprooted because whenever I hit the particular with great speed, it bowed down and saved itself and I came out empty-handed.
Hearing the river, the ocean smiled and said, “Those who are tough are easily uprooted, but those who have learned humility like grass cannot be crushed even by the mighty speed.”
Moral:
“If you are humble nothing will touch you, neither praise nor disgrace, because you know what you are.” — Mother Teresa.
PRAYER
Let us bow our heads in prayer.
Dear Father,
Today we ask for Your help to walk humbly with our brothers and sisters. It is all too easy for us to fall prey to our flesh and to walk in arrogance, but pride causes division and we desire peace. Help us to value one another in this humble spirit so that we may live to the fullest. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Let us say, ‘The Lord’s Prayer together.
Thought of the day
It was pride that changed Angels into devils, its humility that makes men into Angels.
Let’s stand to attention for the preamble and sing our School Song.
