Inspirational Story:
“I would like to be a sailor,” said George Washington. “I might become the captain of a ship.”He was only fourteen years old.
His older brothers were quite willing and said that a bright boy like George would soon become a captain and then perhaps a great admiral. George’s brothers knew the master of a trading ship who was getting ready to sail to England. He agreed to take the boy with him and teach him how to be a good sailor.
George’s mother was very sad. She never wanted her son to go on board. But George had made up his mind to go. He was headstrong and didn’t wish to listen to his mother. At last, the day came for the ship to sail. George was full of glee at the thought of going.
“Goodbye, mother,” he said as he stood on the doorstep and saw the kind faces of those whom he loved. But above all, he saw his mother weeping as he took every step away. He began to shrink in pain.
“Goodbye, my dear boy!” said his mother. George saw the tears in his mother’s eyes. He saw them rolling down her cheeks. He could not bear to see her grief. He stood still for a moment, thinking. Then he turned quickly and said, “Mother, I have changed my mind. I will stay at home and do as you wish.”
Who has not heard of George Washington? He was the most famous President of the United States of America. He has been called the Father of his Country. All because his mother once stopped him from being a sailor. All because she knew her son was going to reach greater heights.
Thought for the day:
Love and respect your parents. Care for them. You will only know their true value when you see their empty chair.
Let us pray:
Dear Lord,
Thank you to my parents. They have nurtured me and provided for my needs throughout my life. They have sacrificed so much for my good.
Help me to be as loving to them as they have been to me. Open my eyes to ways that I can be a blessing to them. Grant that I would be a source of joy for them and that I can honor them as they deserve to be honored.
Keep them healthy and strong. May your peace reign in their hearts. This prayer I make in your name, Amen
Please join us in saying the Lord’s Prayer together.
