The Scripture Portion is taken from Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians: Chapter 6: verses 19 &20
- Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have
received from God? You are not your own; - you were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your body.
A Short Story:
There was a boy named Steve who was very good at sports in school and represented the school
cricket team. Steve’s mother was very proud of him but was only worried about one habit of his – his
staying dirty. Despite reminding him several times, Steve never bothered to brush his teeth twice,
have a bath or wear clean clothes. He just picked whatever he saw first and would wear it, even
though it was soiled and smelt of sweat.
Today was a big day for Steve as the Cricket Selection Committee members were coming to their
school to select the team for the state level. Steve had practiced late yesterday so he got up a little late
in the morning.
As soon as he woke up he rushed to the school in the same clothes that he had practiced
the day before. He did not even update his mother about the selection, just ran out and rushed to
school.
He reached school on time to join the line that was formed to pick up the team. When his turn came
he started with a brief introduction about himself, his passion for the game, and his experience playing
this game since he was a child. The sports coach also praised him in front of the committee. Steve
felt proud and was sure that he would be selected.
After the introductory rounds were over, the
Selection Committee began calling out the names, of those selected. Steve was shocked when his name
was not called out. He could not believe the decision of the committee and questioned them, “Sirs,
there is a mistake, I am the best in the team here, yet I have not been selected.”
One of the members replied, “Steve, cricket is a gentleman’s game and a gentleman is always neat
and presentable. A person who does not understand and respect the importance of the game cannot
be part of the team.”
Steve stood there speechless, learning the lesson of his life on the importance of personal hygiene and
cleanliness. Many teenagers tend to ignore this basic habit, despite the fact that only a healthy body
can yield a moderate mental temperament that will lead us to success in various life endeavors.
Thought for the Day:
Healthy habits are learned in the same way as unhealthy habits – through practice. Just as charity begins
at home, hygiene starts with you and me.
Let us pray –
Dear Lord, we thank you for this beautiful morning. We praise and glorify your name for every
manifold blessing showered upon us. Father, help us to offer ourselves as living sacrifices for the
glory of your Kingdom. Prepare us, Lord, to be always ready, holy, and acceptable to carry out your
will.
Lord, we pray for our school, especially our Principal, Vice-Principal, Administrative Heads,
Teachers, and the Non-Teaching staff. Bless them and keep them strong as they handle their
responsibilities. We also pray and commit every student who has bowed their heads in your
presence. Give us the knowledge that we pray with understanding hearts and the vision which can see
thy love in the world in spite of human failure. In your sweet and precious name, we pray. Amen.
Let us continue with the Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in Heaven…….
