Inspirational Reading: FOREST MAN OF INDIA
An environmental activist and forestry worker, Jadhav Payeng from Majuli, a
river island in Assam, North East India has single-handedly planted a forest in
the middle of a barren wasteland of 550 hectares. He planted a tree every single
day for 40 years and now, this manmade forest is bigger than Central Park, New
York City. This incredible forest is now home to hundreds of elephants, rhinos,
boars, reptiles and birds. It is named after him as Molai forest.
This botanical enthusiast says he is planning to plant trees until his “last
breath”. He says Nature gives him inspiration and power. He has been conferred the
title ‘The Forest Man’ by the Government of India and has also been honored with the
Padma Shri.
Reflection: Nature is God’s gift to humanity. Most of the damage to the
environment is done through wrong human choices. Each one of us must be
responsible and take measures to ensure the sustainability of the planet for
future generations.
Thought for the day: Let us nurture nature so that we can have a better future.
Let us pray: Almighty God, we thank you and praise you for this new day. We
thank you for this beautiful nature that you have given us. Give us the wisdom
to be responsible and care for the environment and its resources. In Jesus’s most
precious name I pray. Amen.
Now, Kumail Qureshi will lead us in the Lord’s Prayer
